Warning Signs of a Blood Clot That Can’t Be Ignored

The dangerous type of clot is called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and it can cause “traffic jams” in your bloodstream. There can also be very serious consequences if a blood clot comes loose from the place of its appearance and reaches your lungs or heart.

we have collected the most important signs that you should pay attention to recognize the symptoms of DVT as soon as possible.

1. Arm or leg pain

Although it is usually necessary to have several symptoms to diagnose DVT, the only sign of this serious illness that you may have is pain. The pain of a blood clot can easily be confused with muscle cramp, but this kind of pain occurs more often when you walk or bend your feet up.

2. Shortness of breath

If you suddenly realize that it has become very difficult for you to take deep breaths, this may be a symptom of a blood clot in your lung, which is called a pulmonary embolism.

3. Chest pain

If you have chest pain when you breathe deeply, this could be one of the symptoms of a pulmonary embolism. The pain in your chest is usually sharp and stabbing, and you can easily think that you have a heart attack. The main difference between them is that PE always gets worse with breathing. In any case, you should call 911 immediately because the consequences can become fatal.

4. A racing heart

If you have a blood clot in your lung, you may feel an eyelash flutter in your chest. In this case, tachycardia can be caused by a low level of oxygen in your lungs. As a result, your heart is trying to fill the gap and is starting to go faster and faster.

5. A red or dark discoloration on one leg

Red or dark spots on the skin that appear for no reason could be a symptom of a blood clot in the leg. You can also feel tenderness and warmth in this area and even pain while stretching your toes up. 6. Swelling in a limb If you suddenly noticed that one of your ankles was swollen, this could be a warning symptom of DVT. This condition is considered an emergency because a clot can be released at any time and reach one of your organs.

6. Vomiting

Vomiting may be a sign of a blood clot in the abdomen. This condition is called mesenteric ischemia, and it is usually coupled with severe pain in the abdominal area. If your intestines do not get enough blood, you may also experience nausea and even blood in your stool.

7. Partial or complete blindness in one eye

The painless loss of vision in one of your eyes is usually a sign of occlusion of the central retinal artery. It is considered a serious medical emergency, especially if you have additional symptoms such as dizziness and problems with maintaining your balance.

If you notice any of these signs, see a doctor as soon as possible. Remember that a blood clot can be deadly if you do not treat it properly and immediately.
